Ryan Preece and Joey Logano were disqualified from Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Talladega race. Preece was disqualified for having three shims instead of two on the spoiler, and Logano was disqualified for a missing spoiler bolt.

This is a big blow for Ryan Preece and Joey Logano as they both finished in the top five at Talladega. Preece finished second behind confirmed winner Austin Cindric, and Logano finished fifth. With the disqualifications, Preece and Logano earned 38th and 39th finishes on Sunday, respectively. Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports showed the rules both drivers violated on X/Twitter.

Preece came close to winning his first career Cup Series race on Sunday. After the race, Preece talked about being inches away from a victory.

“You know, I’m happy, but as a racer, you want to win, right?” Preece said to Jamie Little. “I felt like coming through the trioval, I’m like, ‘Alright, we’re all sticking together,’ nobody was really leaving me. I wish I didn’t have to shade up so much, and maybe side draft Austin to pull him back. But ultimately, thank you to RFK, Bam, Kroger, Celsius, you know, all the partners that we have at RFK, because as I said earlier, without this opportunity, I’d probably be back in Connecticut racing modifieds. So, this one’s for the modifieds mainly crowd.”

Logano led 24 laps at Talladega but could not get his first win of the year. After the race, Logano showed support for Cindric as they are both members of Team Penske.

“It’s about time one of us wins these things,” Logano told Regan Smith of FOX Sports. “You think about the amount of laps led by Team Penske and Ford in general, we just haven’t been able to close. To see a couple Fords on the front row duking it out — I wish one of them was me in a selfish way — but it’s good to see those guys run up there and click one off for Penske.”
