Early caution at Texas Motor Speedway. Thad Moffitt got up out of the groove and before you knew it, multi-truck incident. Moffitt continues to have a tough NASCAR season.

Richard Petty’s grandson has not had a great go of things this season. This is the latest example. Something was off with his truck as he got up into the high groove on the 1.5-mile track.

Coming out of Turn 2 on Lap 2, Thad Moffitt came down the track to avoid getting into the wall, but his truck wouldn’t turn. Then, it caught grip and he drove it into traffic. Tyler Ankrum and Memphis Villarreal were involved in this one. Ankrum was already in a backup.

Thad Moffitt wasn’t sure what happened but noted he thought something had broken in the truck before the wreck. Something just didn’t feel right for Moffitt and he had no way to correct what was happening.

The Truck Series rookie is kind of running uphill this season. He hasn’t been able to finish better than P25. It feels like if he isn’t wrecked he has a mechanical issue, or in this case, both. Faction46 is a brand new team working with Niece Motorsports. Right now, things aren’t clicking. They might not get better for a number of weeks, too.

Thad Moffitt has a ton of pressure on his shoulders

Being the grandson of Richard Petty isn’t easy when you’re a race car driver. Thad Moffitt has a ton of pressure on his shoulders. New team, carrying his family legacy, 75th anniversary of Petty racing – all of that adds up.

Thad is just 23 years old. He doesn’t have a lot of NASCAR experience. However, he’s been in and around racing his entire life. Most of his experience in the last five years has been in the ARCA Menards Series as well as the Trans-Am Series.

Right now, everything seems to be going wrong. So, it’s hard to pinpoint one or even a few things that this Faction46 team needs to fix. The Petty family is fully behind him, his grandfather is always giving him tips and pointers. But the results are lacking.

Thad Moffitt might figure things out eventually this season. Right now, it feels like a chasm between this 46 truck and even a top-20 finish right now in the Truck Series.
