Watch: Cam Waters' NASCAR debut goes up in in smoke at Martinsville

Cam Waters' NASCAR debut went up in smoke on Friday night.

Running in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Martinsville, the 29-year-old Australia native was having a solid night, running inside the top 20 for much of the race. Unfortunately, a classic Martinsville chain-reaction incident took him out.

Waters' radiator was busted, taking him out of the race and placing him 30th when all was said and done. Despite showing good speed, it's a disappointing result for the Australian Supercars regular.

Waters was looking to follow in the popularity and success of fellow Supercar driver Shane van Gisbergen, who won in his NASCAR debut last July in Chicago. Following the victory, van Gisbergen ran several more NASCAR races in 2023 before going full-time in the Xfinity Series in 2024, with a plan to go full-time in the Cup in 2025.

Martinsville is a good spot to make your debut, as it forces you to keep your temper in check while still driving your vehicle on the edge of control. But despite's van Gisbergen's quick success in America, it seems Waters will have a slightly more difficult time acclimating to the rough-and-tumble world of NASCAR.

He will get another chance to prove himself fairly soon, however, as he'll be back behind the wheel on May 4 at the Kansas Speedway, once more driving the No. 66 truck for ThorSport Racing.
