Watch: Roof blows off of Bayley Currey's truck during Saturday's race

According to team radio, a piece of debris hit the No. 41 Silverado, damaging the roof until it eventually caved in, taking Currey out of the race after completing 96 laps. 

Currey finished 30th out of 33 trucks in the event, 39 laps down to eventual winner Kyle Busch. 

"When you're in a pack like that, there's stuff flying," Currey said when asked about what could've hit the truck. "When the race started, I was trying to get up to the very top lane, but there's so much junk up there. But there was stuff flying everywhere. With the turbulent air here, stuff goes every which way."

"I could feel it get colder in the truck, too," he remarked when asked what it was like to have the roof of his truck missing. 

Currey's incident on Saturday is certainly unheard of. Roofs are often one of the most secure pieces on a NASCAR vehicle, even on superspeedways such as Atlanta, where flips and violent crashes are most likely to occur. 

Surprisingly, Saturday's race at Atlanta wasn't full of carnage and torn up trucks, as opposed to last Friday's season opener at Daytona. 

Only three trucks, including Currey, failed to finish the race. The No. 91 of Jack Wood, was taken out due to damage sustained in an accident and Christian Eckes failed to finish due to a brake failure early in Stage 2. 

Currey will get a chance to redeem himself with the roof on his truck on March 1, when the Truck Series heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Victoria's Voice Foundation 200. 

The green flag will fly shortly after 9 p.m. ET, and the race will air on FS1, MRN, and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
