Kyle Larson was the talk of the town after winning the race in Las Vegas on Sunday. On the other end of the field, there was William Byron who finished a mediocre 10th after a bizarre incident. Later, after the race was finished, the Daytona race winner shared this peculiar story.

The 26-year-old had to pit on lap 47 after a trash bag got stuck in front of the grill. Subsequently, this caused the engine temps to increase which was a major hurdle in his way. Moreover, this hampered the 11-time race winner’s chances of getting on the podium. Following this, the HMS driver finished more than 7 seconds behind his teammate.

It was huge. It seemed to get stuck somewhere underneath. I just know my temps went from 250 (degrees) to 350 in like 10 seconds. I never had that happen. William Byron said as repoted by foxnews.com.

The 26-year-old elaborated that the car overheated in a matter of seconds. Moreover, this put the HMS driver in a worse-off position despite being one of the contenders for the race win after his masterclass at the inaugural race of the season. However, Byron would be now looking towards the race in Phoenix and staying away from any flying trash bags that might hamper his progress.

Who will have the upper hand at Hendrick Motorsports?

At Hendrick Motorsports, two drivers have won a race each this year. Following the trend set by Byron, Larson also involved himself in the mix and achieved a win at the Sin City. Moreover, two of the three race winners have come from the HMS outfit. Subsequently, this raises the question of who will have the upper hand in the team.

Both the drivers have made their places into the playoffs. Despite that, Rick Hendrick and the drivers themselves would like to earn even more stage points before the start of playoffs. Following this mentality, the drivers could trip over each other if they are not careful.

Thus, the situation at HMS is currently in equilibrium but could be unsettled soon if the drivers come in the way of each other. Following this, the fans follow the drivers to Phoenix as Larson is currently in the championship lead, while Byron is in fourth. So things might take a turn if one or the other driver takes another win this weekend.
