Two days after Chase Briscoe learned that he and his wife had lost their 12-week-old baby and first child, Briscoe won at Darlington Raceway to restart the Xfinity Series season halted by the coronavirus pandemic in March.
Briscoe shared the news of his wife's miscarriage on Instagram:
Per Jerry Bonkowski of NBC Sports and the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Briscoe spoke with FS1 about his roller-coaster week following his victory at Darlington on Thursday:
"That’s for my wife. This is the hardest week I’ve ever had to deal with. I was crying in the race car and emotionally I wasn’t there at all.
"This is more than a race win, it’s the biggest day of my life after the toughest day of my life. To beat the best there is just so satisfying."
Briscoe also thanked God several times.
Kyle Busch finished second, followed by Justin Allgaier. Austin Cindric and Noah Gragson rounded out the top five.
