Front Row Motorsports has decided that they will not be appealing the Layne Riggs disqualification from Kansas Speedway. Riggs originally finished P2 to Carson Hocevar. However, he was given a P31 result following post-race inspection by NASCAR.
Layne Riggs had an issue with his bed cover at Kansas. NASCAR officials found that it flexed or sagged during the race. We have seen penalties for flexible windshields before, and now Riggs gets hit for the bed cover.
It is a shame about the disqualification, but we’ll still have the replays of that epic attempt at a last-lap pass. Not to mention Carson Hocevar flipping Riggs off as he sped to the finish line. Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports reported on Front Row’s decision.

Regardless of his bed cover issues, Layne Riggs put on a hell of a show. He was able to rip the wall at Kansas and track Carson Hocevar down at the end of the race. Had he waited to make his pass in Turns 3 and 4, he may have passed him for the win. Well, until the DQ came down.
Riggs has now gone up against Kyle Larson and Hocevar, two Cup Series talents, and put on impressive showings. In both instances, Riggs came out with the short end of the stick. But his race craft has been great against the best in the sport.
It was a tough Saturday night for Riggs. He got flipped off, lost the race, and then he had his runner-up finish disqualified. Now, it’s on to North Wilkesboro.
Coming out of Turns 3 and 4 on the last lap, Carson Hocevar let his emotions get the best of him. It turned into a hilarious moment and one that even he was a bit embarrassed about afterward. He chose to flip off Layne Riggs all the way down the frontstretch.
It was funny to watch on the TV, but it is never fun to be flipped off if you are on the receiving end of things. Riggs handled it well, but he seemed to be in disbelief. After all, Hocevar won the race.
“Yeah, last lap, I got to him. Got into him a little bit. We both hit the wall. He won the race and you know, I think he was mad at me,” Riggs said after the race. “I think he flipped me off all the way down the frontstretch coming to the checkered, but how can you be mad when you win the race, right?”
I think both Layne Riggs and Carson Hocevar are great personalities. They are exactly what the sport needs moving forward. Riggs, an old-school type of racer with a family legacy. Hocevar, the wild upstart trying to make a name for himself. Hopefully, we see more epic battles between the two, preferably in the Cup Series in a few years.
