Last week, the Philadelphia 76ers added a G League prospect to the roster on a temporary basis.

On February 20, 76ers President of Basketball Operations, Daryl Morey, officially announced that the Sixers were bringing on Darius Bazley via a 10-day contract.

It’s unclear whether or not there is a future for Bazley in Philadelphia, but for the time being, the Sixers do not appear to be prioritizing a roster spot for him.

On Friday, the Sixers geared up for a matchup against the Charlotte Hornets. Hours before the game started, the team confirmed that Bazley’s 10-day contract had expired. As a result, he returned to the NBA G League to compete with the Sixers’ affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.

Bazley is no stranger to the Blue Coats. Earlier this year, his G League rights were acquired by the Sixers’ affiliate. During the G League regular season, Bazley appeared in 19 matchups, averaging 20 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

The former first-round pick earned an opportunity to join the shorthanded Sixers through their recent stretch of games. However, his playing time was very limited, as he averaged just three minutes across three matchups. During that time, Bazley attempted just one shot, which was unsuccessful. He produced a total of one rebound and two assists.

Bazley is no stranger to playing at the NBA level. Prior to his run with the Sixers’ developmental organization, the veteran had a four-year run with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He also appeared in seven games with the Phoenix Suns last season.

A return to an NBA roster shouldn’t be ruled out for Bazley. For the time being, he’ll continue competing with the Blue Coats until a different opportunity comes calling.
