76ers' Ben Simmons reportedly believes playing with Joel Embiid has 'run its course'

There are many reasons Ben Simmons wants to leave the Philadelphia 76ers. One of those reasons reportedly has to do with All-Star big man Joel Embiid.

Simmons believes Embiid's style of play doesn't mesh well with his, according to The Athletic's Sam Amick. While there is "nothing personal" about Simmons wanting to part ways with Embiid, the point guard "has clearly decided that his career is better off without Embiid blocking the runways in the paint that he so badly needs to succeed," Amick adds.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported last week that Simmons "intends to never play another game" for the Sixers. He has also cut off all communication with the team and recently denied a meeting with his teammates, who wanted to encourage him to play the 2021-22 season with them.

Simmons' relationship with the Sixers began to deteriorate when the organization attempted to trade him to the Houston Rockets in exchange for James Harden.

Trade rumors then followed Simmons after Philadelphia was eliminated from the 2021 playoffs in the second round. The 25-year-old had an awful playoff run, and concerns began to mount over his ability to develop on offense.

The 76ers reportedly want a haul for Simmons, including an "All-Star-caliber player" and multiple first-round picks. However, several interested teams haven't been willing to meet the franchise's demands.

Simmons is under contract through the 2024-25 season after signing a five-year extension worth $177.2 million in July 2019. He's willing to be fined for not reporting to training camp to force a trade out of Philadelphia.
