76ers lose guard Tyrese Maxey for three to four weeks with foot injury

The Philadelphia 76ers dodged a bullet.

The Sixers initially feared the worst after dynamic guard Tyrese Maxey went down with a foot injury Friday night against the Milwaukee Bucks. But, on Saturday, Maxey and the Sixers received some good news.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to report on Maxey's injury status; later, NBC 10's John Clark confirmed Maxey sustained a small fracture in his left foot, which won't require surgery. The Sixers expect Maxey to miss the next three to four weeks, but he'll be reevaluated in 14 days.

Maxey sustained the injury after stepping on Bucks' guard Jevon Carter's foot while driving to the basket during the Sixers' 110-102 win Friday night.

It's an unfortunate stumbling block for Maxey, who was playing the best basketball of his young career. Through 15 games, Maxey is averaging career-highs in points (22.9), assists (4.4), rebounds (3.1), and minutes played (36.4). Though, the news could've been worse, especially since the Sixers have been hit hard by the injury bug as of late.

With Maxey now out, the Sixers have four players (three starters) dealing with injuries. Star shooting guard James Harden is already out with a foot injury, starting power forward Tobias Harris is day-to-day nursing a hip injury, and shooting guard Furkan Korkmaz, a solid bench piece, is out with a knee injury.
