Following their 121-114 victory over the Charlotte Hornets, the Philadelphia 76ers reportedly planned to make a roster move, which would free up a two-way slot on the team.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sixers are cutting ties with the veteran center Kenneth Lofton Jr.

Back in December, Lofton was waived by the Memphis Grizzlies during his sophomore season with the team. Despite going undrafted in 2022, Lofton’s departure from Memphis came as a shock across the league.

A few days after parting ways with Memphis, Lofton joined the 76ers on a two-way contract. Although the Sixers have been thin on depth throughout the last two months, that hasn’t opened many opportunities for Lofton on the main roster.

The 21-year-old appeared in just two games for the Sixers since signing with them. He averaged five minutes on the floor during his couple of performances.

For the most part, Lofton has been a regular contributor to the team’s NBA G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. Throughout ten regular season games, Lofton averaged 27 points, nine rebounds, and four assists in roughly 30 minutes of action.

While Lofton gave the Blue Coats some solid performances since he linked with the team a few months back, the Sixers don’t see a need for his services moving forward.

The former G League Rookie of the Year shouldn’t have a tough time finding a new team. While he’s still fresh in the game, Lofton has 41 NBA appearances under his belt. When he was with the Grizzlies, Lofton averaged seven minutes off the bench. He produced on 49 percent of his field goals, and accounted for four points per game.

As for the Sixers, they hold just two two-way players at this point in Terquavion Smith and Ricky Council IV.
