Could Ben Simmons end up in Motor City? Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

76ers reportedly having 'ongoing' talks with Pistons about a Ben Simmons trade

The Philadelphia 76ers are "engaged in ongoing discussions" with the Detroit Pistons about a potential trade that would send point guard Ben Simmons to the Motor City, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Earlier Thursday, The Athletic reported that the 76ers have a list of 30 NBA players they'd be willing to accept in a trade involving Simmons. What makes the Pistons a peculiar trade destination for Simmons is the lack of star power on one of the NBA's worst rosters.

According to Pompey, the trade talks with Detroit have centered around Jerami Grant, a forward who spent the first three seasons of his career with the 76ers. Grant signed a three-year, $60 million contract with the Pistons in November 2020 and finished his first season with the team with a career-best 22.3 points per game. Through the first 13 games of the 2021-22 season, Grant is averaging 18 points per game.

The 76ers would like to acquire Grant along with "another forward, a young player and a draft pick" from the Pistons, according to Pompey. However, he also notes another source said the team wants a "more high-profile player" than Grant.
