Will Russell Westbrook stick around in L.A.? Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Adrian Wojnarowski: Russell Westbrook 'wants to have success in L.A.'

In early July, ESPN's Brian Windhorst said that he thinks a trade involving Kyrie Irving of the Brooklyn Nets and Russell Westbrook of the Los Angeles Lakers was "eventually going to happen." The following day however, incoming Lakers head coach Darvin Ham said that he had a "clear plan" on how he'd utilize the former MVP and he felt that Westbrook was "going to flourish."

While Ham's comments seem to indicate that Westbrook was in Los Angeles to stay, it was reported last week that the point guard and longtime agent Thad Foucher were splitting due to "irreconcilable differences," prompting further speculation.

On Monday morning, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski provided his latest update on Westbrook and his future with the Lakers.

Westbrook exercised his $47.1 million option in late June. The 33-year-old is entering the final season of his original five-year, $206 million contract that began when he was still on his first NBA team, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
