According to NBA insiders Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of The Athletic, Andrew Wiggins has returned to the Golden State Warriors after tending to a serious family matter.

Wiggins flew back to the Bay Area on Monday (3/4) and attended practice on Tuesday (3/5) afternoon. He is expected to be in the lineup on Wednesday (3/6) against the Milwaukee Bucks

Wiggins only played in 37 games last season due to a family matter. The Warriors, just like last season, gave Wiggins all the time and space he required.

The 29-year-old Wiggins is averaging 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.5 blocks this season while shooting 45.5% from the field, 35.1% from beyond the arc and 72.7% from the free-throw line.

The Warriors are 32-28 on the season. They are in 10th place in the Western Conference standings. Golden State would face the Los Angeles Lakers in the 9-10 play-in tournament game if the season ended today.

The Lakers beat the Warriors in the second round of the 2023 playoffs in six games. It was the first time the Dubs didn’t reach the NBA Finals after making the postseason in the Kerr era, which began in 2014-15.

Wiggins has career averages of 18.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.7 blocks with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Warriors. He won the 2014-15 Rookie of the Year Award with the Timberwolves and helped the Warriors win the 2022 championship against the Boston Celtics.

The Warriors signed Wiggins to a four-year, $109 million extension in October 2022. Wiggins is making $24.3 million this season. The Kansas product will make $26.3 million in 2024-25.

There were rumors that the Warriors were close to trading Wiggins at this year’s NBA trade deadline. However, Wiggins remained with the franchise.
