Anthony Edwards has been on a high lately, especially after sweeping Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns . But for his teammate, Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Mike Conley, he resembles a young Michael Jordan in almost every way.

Edwards first entered the league as Minnesota’s number one pick during the 2020 Draft. From there, he immediately made an impact by averaging 19.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.1 steals in the 72 games he played that year.

Over the years, Edwards has become more prominent in the NBA, thanks to his high-flying dunks and incredible swagger on and off the court. He was named to his first All-Star Game in 2023 during a regular season where Edwards posted averages of 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.6 steals per contest.

After years of mediocrity, the Timberwolves exploded out of the gate this season as the team finished with a high seed in the Western Conference. This gave the team a first round showdown against the Phoenix Suns and eventually swept them in four game.

Throughout that stretch, the 22-year old shooting guard notched 31.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 2.0 steals in his series against the Kevin Durant-led team. He also shot an efficient 51 percent from the field, 43 percent from beyond the arc, and 83 percent from the free throw line.

Minnesota Timberwolves Guard Mike Conley Calls Anthony Edwards a Young Michael Jordan

After his incredible performance against the Suns, a lot of favorable publicity turned towards Edwards’ direction. Among them was when Mike Conley called his teammate a young Michael Jordan in an NBA on TNT video clip posted on the show’s official X account.

At age 22, Jordan averaged 43.7 points, 6.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks in the three playoff games he played in 1986. Along with Edward’s offensive brilliance, his swagger definitely makes him a lot like the six-time NBA champion when he still played on the court.

The Timberwolves are slated to face Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in the next round. This is the ideal situation to see whether Edwards can continue the narrative of being Jordan’s successor in the NBA. If he can eliminate the defending champions, the All-Star shooting guard gains a stronger case to be hailed as the second coming of the Chicago Bulls’ legend.
