It’s been a really long time since the Minnesota Timberwolves have won a playoff series. But on Sunday night they had an opportunity to break that winless streak with a 4-0 sweep of the Phoenix Suns.

To the Suns’ credit, obtaining a victory tonight was a lot more difficult than it had proven to be in the three contests prior. But, when rubber met the road, the Suns proved once again that they do not have what it takes to hang with this Wolves team.

Minnesota Timberwolves sweep Phoenix Suns

Even in a game where Minnesota shot under 25% in the first half and Rudy Gobert dealt with foul trouble, it just didn’t matter. At the end of the day, the Suns just aren’t at the same level as the Timberwolves and that proved to be the case in the minimum amount of attempts.

Still, at no point during game 4 did it ever feel like the Timberwolves were in jeopardy of losing. Just like most of the series, a Wolves win just felt inevitable. And no doubt, a huge part of that feeling of inevitability is Anthony Edwards.

Much like his team as a whole, Ant had a difficult first half. But when it’s time for Edwards to takeover, he just hits another mode. And we saw that happen again on Sunday, this time midway through the 4th quarter.

When the night was all said and done, Ant finished with 40 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Again, he wasn’t all that great for pretty much the entire first half, and even into the 3rd quarter. But when it was time to turn up, Ant was there. The kid is just an absolute killer.

And just like that, the Minnesota Timberwolves are moving onto the 2nd round of the NBA Playoffs for the first time since 2004. Literally 20 years after advancing to the Western Conference Finals, the Minnesota Timberwolves advance for the the first time with a sweep over the Phoenix Suns.

Next up: (probably) the defending champion Denver Nuggets.
