Autographed Michael Jordan card sells for huge price at auction

A 1997 Michael Jordan Upper Deck basketball card sold for $840,000 at an auction Thursday night, per TMZ Sports

That makes it one of the most expensive and valuable Jordan cards to ever be sold.

What makes this particular card so valuable?

Well, a couple of things. For starters, it features a patch of Jordan's 1992 All-Star jersey which was the game where he went against Magic Johnson. Only 23 of the cards were ever produced, a reference to Jordan's uniform number at the time. Jordan had 18 points and five assists in that game.

So not only does feature a part of Jordan's jersey from one of the most iconic All-Star games in NBA history, but it is also incredibly rare.

Adding to the value is that the card is also autographed by Jordan.

While that $840,000 price tag is extremely high, it is still not the most expensive Jordan card that has ever been sold.

There have been a handful of Jordan cards that sold for seven figures, including a different version of this Upper Deck card that sold for more than $2 million, but that was in a private sale and not an auction

The most expensive trading card ever sold (in any sport) remains a 1952 Mickey Mantle card that sold for more than $12.5 million
