A lot of people will agree when someone says New York Knicks fans are among the loudest and proudest fanbases in the NBA. Not only is their team playing in one of the biggest markets in the entire league, but their home stadium is widely considered to be the Mecca of basketball.

Stephen A. Smith is one of the most visible and vocal fans of the Knicks. He’s never been shy about letting everyone who would care to listen know how much he cares for the Knicks and how terrible it felt for him when his team was languishing at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.

It would be fair to assume that Smith is religiously watching Knicks games whenever he has the chance, especially now that the team is good with a legit superstar leading them. However, a recent incident that’s gone viral may put a lot of questions on whether Smith is a true Knicks fan.

Stephen A. Smith embarrassed himself by making errors on New York Knicks roster

During the latest episode of The Stephen A. Smith Show, the veteran analyst talked about the players who are making a huge contribution to Jalen Brunson. A star can only go so far without a solid supporting cast, after all.

However, he named players that have long been kicked from the team. Per The Spun’s Chris  Rosvoglou:

For starters, Smith gave Quentin Grimes credit for the Knicks’ recent win over the Bucks. In case he’s been living under a rock, the Knicks traded Grimes to the Pistons before the deadline.

A few moments later, Smith gave Isaiah Hartenstein credit for helping out New York’s bench. For those who don’t know, Hartenstein has been the unquestioned starter at center over the past few months.

Maybe Stephen A. Smith has too much on his plate to actually know every single detail about the Knicks season. After all, he also has to pay attention to other sports while juggling his Knicks fandom.

However, it is standard to at least know the current roster of the team you’re supporting even if you haven’t watched as many Knicks games as you would have liked. These errors give SAS a bad look as a New York Knicks fan.
