Bill Simmons becomes a meme after Celtics' Game 7 loss

The Boston Celtics' loss in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals inspired what's sure to be a new 'sad meme' as famed sports media personality Bill Simmons was caught by TNT's cameras looking totally despondent as the game wound down.

Most famous for his mix of pop culture (especially movies) in his sports analysis, the New England-reared Simmons is an unabashed homer for all things Boston, most especially the Red Sox and Celtics. In fact, plenty of his work over the years, whether during his long run at ESPN or with his current company The Ringer, generally circles back to something related to the 1980s era of the Celtics, much to the chagrin of fans around the country.

After the Celtics' horrible performance on their home floor in Boston, social media was prepared to delight in the misery of the fan base, but 'Sad Bill' was a gift from the TV gods as the NBACentral tweet has been retweeted over 1,000 times and quote tweeted 670 times as of Tuesday morning.

Better yet, some social media also likened Simmons' look to that of Jeremy Strong, who played Kendall Roy on HBO's "Succession," the four-season drama that just ended on Sunday.

Sad Bill Simmons didn't appear in the parting shot for "Inside the NBA," but he did make an appearance in the show's "Gone Fishin'" farewell, as captured by our own Sean Keane.

Simmons, having already seen the screenshot, tweeted his response.

The offseason may only last for a few months but even he can acknowledge that memes live forever.
