Clairvoyant Bill is still alive and well in the year 2024.

Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic produced one of the most jaw-dropping scoring performances of all-time on Friday night against the Atlanta Hawks. Doncic erupted for 73 points on a mere 33 shots. It was tied for the fourth-highest scoring game in NBA history, was the most by any player since Kobe Bryant’s 81 points in 2006 and ended up as the most efficient 70-plus-point game ever (with Doncic posting a staggering 91.2 true shooting percentage).

You can see some of the highlights from Doncic’s shock-and-awe game here.

What was almost as stunning as Doncic’s scoring masterpiece was what Bill Simmons posted to X several days prior. Reacting to Joel Embiid’s 70-point game on Monday, The Ringer CEO Simmons predicted Tuesday that Doncic would be next to join the 70-point club.

“Luka will absolutely 100% be the next guy to join,” Simmons wrote. “He’s like a -500 favorite.”

That is doubly impressive from Simmons. Not only did he call Doncic being the next player to hit 70 (in a league chock-full of high-scoring dynamos), but it also only took three days for Simmons’ prophecy to manifest.

Simmons rarely misses when it comes to basketball predictions. Just over a year ago, he went viral for how perfectly he nailed a call about the sale of an NBA team.
