Boston game was LeBron's 'worst loss' since the 2018 Finals

LeBron James may break the NBA's scoring record Tuesday night. But he's still haunted by a missed call from 10 days ago.

According to Joe Vardon, James was so upset that he sat out the next game against the Nets in Brooklyn, though the official explanation was that James had "really significant soreness" in his foot. They also had a back-to-back against the Knicks the next night, so James was likely only playing in one of those games, but perhaps his frustration determined which NYC game he missed.

It's not exactly news that James was upset, because he certainly didn't hide his feelings at the time. After the officials missed a foul on Jayson Tatum as James drove to the basket, he had an extended meltdown on the court.

Afterward, the NBA acknowledged they missed the call in the Last Two Minute Report. They also missed an offensive foul call on Anthony Davis on the Lakers' previous possession, but no one noticed, perhaps because Jaylen Brown didn't fall down on the court in agony. Still, the officials apologized profusely for the error.

There were a few moments in Game 1 of the 2018 Finals that may have infuriated James. First, a charge call on Kevin Durant was called a blocking foul after review. Then George Hill missed a game-winning free throw. Finally, J.R. Smith seemingly forgot the score and ran out the clock.

James claims he was so upset that he punched a white board in the locker room and broke a bone in his hand. That summer, he left for the Lakers.

He can break the all-time scoring record with 36 points Tuesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are playing on a back-to-back. We think he's going to do it. As long as he's not still heartbroken about that missed call.
