The Phoenix Suns acquired Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets during the 2022-23 season. The franchise was expecting the superstar forward to help the organization win its first championship.
However, the Durant era in Phoenix has been underwhelming.
The Suns lost to the Denver Nuggets in the second round of the 2023 playoffs, lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2024 playoffs and missed the postseason this year.
After Phoenix fired Mike Budenholzer as head coach in April, Shams Charania of ESPN reported that the Suns and Durant are expected to work together on a trade this offseason.
Durant, 36, has one year left on his contract.
On Wednesday, Brian Windhorst of ESPN said that he's 98% sure that Durant will get traded by the Suns this offseason.
However, the NBA insider is not sure where KD will land.
"Kevin Durant, I'm like 98% sure he's not gonna be a Sun next year," Windhorst said. "How it works out, though, I'm about 1% sure. There's gonna be a number of teams interested, but some of it is gonna depend on whether they see Durant as a player they keep on a one-year contract or if they want to give him a contract extension, which I suspect he's going to want."
Durant turns 37 in the fall. He averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the Suns this season while shooting 52.7% from the field, 43.0% from 3 and 83.9% from the free-throw line.
Durant has career averages of 27.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Golden State Warriors, Nets and Suns. He's a two-time champion, a two-time Finals MVP, a one-time MVP and a four-time scoring champion.
A future Hall of Famer, Durant has been linked to the Houston Rockets, Miami Heat, Timberwolves and San Antonio Spurs in trade rumors.
It will be intriguing to see if the Texas product stays with the Suns or is traded this offseason.
