The Brooklyn Nets have finally made their decision. After a lengthy search for the franchise’s next head coach, news broke on Monday evening that the organization has selected Sacramento Kings assistant coach Jordi Fernandez as their next man at the helm.

Brooklyn Nets News: Jordi Fernandez Selected as New Head Coach

ESPN’s NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski was the first to break the news:

“Jordi Fernandez has emerged as the Brooklyn Nets’ choice to become the franchise’s next coach, separating himself amid a wide, month-long search that now has the Nets prepared to hire the Sacramento Kings’ top assistant,” Woj reported.

Fernandez will take over the helm for Brooklyn in 2024-25 after the team opted not to promote interim head coach Kevin Ollie to a more permanent role. Ollie led the Nets to a 32-50 record this past season.

According to Woj, Nets general manager Sean Marks “met with dozens of candidates in recent weeks,” but it was Fernandez who recently advanced to team meet owner Joe Tsai. Clearly, that meeting went well.

Fernandez, 41, will now end his stint with the Kings, where he was an integral part of Mike Brown’s Coach of the Year campaign in 2022-23. Prior to joining Sacramento, Fernandez has also worked for the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Denver Nuggets. He’s also had experience as a national coach for Spain and Nigeria.

The Spanish coach reportedly interviewed for the head coaching jobs last season for the Milwaukee Bucks, the Phoenix Suns, and the Toronto Raptors.
