On Saturday evening, the Brooklyn Nets will host the Houston Rockets at Barclays Center in New York.
Before the game, head coach Jacque Vaughn revealed that rookie Dariq Whitehead has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2023-24 NBA season.
Via Erik Slater of ClutchPoints : "Jacque Vaughn said Dariq Whitehead will have season-ending surgery Monday on the stress reaction in his shin."
Whitehead was the 22nd pick in the 2023 NBA Draft out of Duke and has played in two games for the Nets.
He averaged 1.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest while shooting 20.0% from the field.
In addition to his time in Brooklyn, Whitehead got a lot of action with the Long Island Nets in the G League.
In 13 Showcase Cup games, he averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest while shooting 36.3% from the field and 31.0% from the three-point range.
He also played in four regular-season games and had been averaging 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.0 steals per contest while shooting 42.9% from the field and 14.3% from the three-point range.
As for the Nets, they are the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference with a 17-27 record in their first 44 games.
They are in the middle of a three-game losing streak and have gone 2-8 over their last ten games.
Following the Rockets, the Nets will remain at home to host Jordan Clarkson and the Utah Jazz on Monday evening at Barclays Center.
