Bucks' assistant Darvin Ham to interview for Lakers head coaching job

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Darvin Ham will interview for the Los Angeles Lakers head coaching position.

The Lakers fired head coach Frank Vogel on April 11 after three seasons with the team. In his first season, Vogel helped lead the Lakers to the NBA Championship inside of the bubble. The Lakers went 42-30 the following season but exited the playoffs in the opening round. This season, the Lakers were 33-49 and did not qualify for the postseason.

Ham has been an assistant with the Bucks since 2018 and was previously an assistant with the Lakers from 2011 to 2013.

Ham played eight seasons in the NBA (1996-2005) and was a member of the Detroit Pistons' 2004 NBA Championship team. Ham also played for the Bucks, Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards, Denver Nuggets, and Indiana Pacers. In 417 games, Ham averaged 2.7 PPG and 2.3 rebounds in 12.4 minutes per game.

After his playing career, Ham got his first coaching gig as an assistant for the NBA D-League Albuquerque Thunderbirds in 2008, later becoming the team's head coach in 2010.

Ham has been an assistant coach in the NBA since 2011, coaching with the Lakers (2011-2013), Hawks (2013-2018), and Bucks.
