Bucks jeopardized their season by firing Adrian Griffin

The Milwaukee Bucks have taken the risky decision to axe Adrian Griffin midway through the season. His firing comes as a surprise, having only been in the job for half a season. The Bucks hired him during the offseason after parting ways with Mike Budenholzer.

Firing a head coach at the season's midway point is a significant risk. It puts pressure on the front office to expedite the hiring process. It puts the incoming coach at a disadvantage, too. They need to implement their own offensive and defensive system on the fly. They need to get all the players on board from the moment they walk through the door. And, of course, they need to learn each of their player's preferred spots, limitations and where they excel.

There's a lot that goes in to developing an elite-level basketball team. Sure, there is an entire analytical department that can help provide the necessary data. There will also be some crossover with assistant coaches, which should help smooth the transition.

With a new voice comes new ideas. Those ideas often take time. That's why the regular season is so important.

Then, there's the pressure that comes with taking the job. The Bucks went all-in on their roster when they acquired Damian Lillard. They have one of the best one-two punches in the league. The expectation is to challenge for a championship this season.

A pressure-cooker environment with little time to prepare is far from ideal. Being a veteran coach and placing your reputation on the line will also come with its own set of hurdles. Still, the opportunity to coach Giannis Antetokounmpo and Lillard will likely be an opportunity that's too good to refuse.

It will be interesting to see who the Bucks turn to as they look to press ahead with their season. More so, it will be captivating to see how they can change their fortunes on both sides of the ball and whether they can find a way of fully unleashing Lillard to give the Bucks the offensive supernova they've been waiting for.

There's a lot of intrigue around the Bucks right now. They've taken a massive roll of the dice for the second time in six months. All we can do now is wait and see how it shakes out.
