Bucks loading up, sign Bobby Portis to two-year, $7.5 million deal

Milwaukee Bucks general manager Jon Horst wasn't joking when he said he was going to bring in solid players in order to convince Giannis Antetokounmpo to stay with the team past the 2020-21 season.

According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the Bucks are signing Bobby Portis to a two-year deal. ESPN reports that the deal is worth $7.5 million.

The news comes after the New York Knicks declined Portis' $15.75 million team option earlier this week.

Portis averaged 10.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game last season while shooting 45 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from beyond the arc.

The 25-year-old is a solid addition for the Bucks, who are looking to avenge their disappointing second-round loss to the Miami Heat in the playoffs last season. Portis will fill in one of the vacancies Ersan Ilyasova and Robin Lopez left.

The Bucks also added Jrue Holiday earlier this week in order to bolster their lineup. They're likely not done adding players yet, either, especially because they need to prove to Antetokounmpo that the team is a serious contender.
