Bulls guard Matt Thomas enters health and safety protocols, out Wednesday vs. Cavaliers

The Chicago Bulls have won four straight games and sit at 17-8 but may be staring at a COVID-19 crisis ahead of Wednesday's matchup at the 13-12 Cleveland Cavaliers.

Per Rob Schaefer of NBC Chicago, Bulls guard Matt Thomas is out for Wednesday's contest due to entering the NBA's health and safety protocols. Thomas joins teammates DeMar DeRozan, Coby White and Javonte Green on the coronavirus-related list.

White tested positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 1, while Green tested positive last Friday.

NBA insider Shams Charania adds Thomas is on track to miss multiple games. Assuming Thomas has to isolate for a minimum of 10 days, he will be sidelined for at least four total contests.

The Bulls notched their fourth consecutive victory via Monday's 109-97 home win over the Denver Nuggets. Thomas scored three points and recorded a steal across 19 minutes of action in that game.

Chicago plays at the Miami Heat (14-11) on Saturday evening.

The Bulls are considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but it's unclear how many individuals associated with the club have received booster shots. It was reported last week the NBA is strongly recommending boosters for all eligible personnel following a study completed with infectious disease specialists and testing manufacturers.
