Cavaliers' Donovan Mitchell makes franchise history with latest hot streak

Donovan Mitchell is earning all types of accolades this season.

In his past three games, Mitchell scorched opposing teams with 44-, 42- and 40-point performances. He now holds the most single-season 40-point games in Cavaliers history with 12, surpassing LeBron James' 10 in 2006.

Mitchell also eclipsed Kyrie Irving (11) for most 40-point games in franchise history. Irving played in Cleveland for six seasons. This is Mitchell's first.

Mitchell has pretty much been unguardable this season—just watch the highlights from his historic 71-point game in January. The four-time All-Star averages 28.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 48.2% from the field.

The 26-year-old became the fourth-fastest active player to reach 10,000 points, behind only James, Joel Embiid and Kevin Durant, according to ESPN. He's the fastest guard to reach the milestone since Dwayne Wade.

But Mitchell's personal achievements haven't come at the expense of the Cavs. Cleveland (49-30) is fourth in the East and secured a playoff berth for the first time since the 2017-18 season.

The young Cavs squad poses a serious threat to anyone they face in the postseason. They're 3-1 against the second-place Boston Celtics and 2-2 against the first-place Milwaukee Bucks this season.

Mitchell and company take on the Orlando Magic Tuesday night as the regular season winds down.
