The Cleveland Cavaliers are in a precarious position this offseason following the disappointing end to their playoff run.
After the historic regular season, they had it was assumed they would be in the finals, or at the very least giving the Boston Celtics a run for their money in the Eastern Conference Finals.
But the Indiana Pacers made quick work of Cleveland in round two and now the state of the team is in flux.
This is the third straight year that the core of Donovan Mitchell, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen have fallen short in the playoffs.
The Cavs fired J.B. Bickerstaff after the 2024 season and hoped that hiring Kenny Atkinson as head coach would give them the boost they needed.
With no other alternate paths the team can take besides starting from scratch or retooling, they are now at a crossroads.
Cleveland has been getting a ton of encouragement from media members and fans to blow the team up, but it seems they are content with the roster and just banking on improvement.
President of Basketball Operations, Koby Altman, gave his end of season press conference and was asked about Ty Jerome’s future.
He didn’t hold back his praises, saying “Love to keep him. We’re hopeful.”
Jerome was a Sixth Man of the Year finalist who exploded after being an end-of-the-rotation guy for the majority of his career.
However, he came back down to Earth quickly in the playoffs when he was nearly taken out of the rotation against the Pacers.
The general consensus following the series was that the Cavs needed to get tougher and while this wasn’t a jab at Jerome specifically, he is a short, small finesse player who crumbled under the intensity of Indiana’s defense.
It seems that Cleveland is content to ignore all the criticisms about their roster and hope that next year is finally the one that provides a much-anticipated playoff leap.
