Cavaliers' Taurean Prince to have season-ending ankle surgery

The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to get bad news on the injury front.

Cleveland forward Taurean Prince tallied eight points in Wednesday's 121-105 win over the Chicago Bulls, but The Athletic's Kelsey Russo reports that the 27-year-old is set to undergo season-ending surgery to repair an ankle injury:

Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com also confirmed the operation.

Prince appeared to reference the setback via Twitter:

Prince joined the Cavaliers via the multi-team January trade that involved superstar guard James Harden making the move from the Houston Rockets to the Brooklyn Nets. In total, Prince appeared in 41 games during the 2020-21 season and averaged 9.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per contest.

Prince was the subject of trade rumors leading up to the March 25 deadline but remained with the Cavaliers. According to Spotrac, he will be on an expiring $13 million contract next season, so it's possible, if not likely, that he will be dealt before he takes the court again for a competitive game.

On Wednesday, the Cavaliers announced that swingman Dylan Windler underwent what will likely be season-ending left knee surgery.
