The Cavaliers intend to sign center/forward Mamadi Diakite to a two-way contract, per Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.

He was among several players waived by the Cavs over the weekend.

Per Fedor, both sides need to clear “a few hurdles” before making the signing a reality.

Diakite, 25, is 6-foot-9 and appeared in 13 games with the Thunder last season after signing three 10-day contracts, the first on Jan 11. He averaged 4.3 points and 4.5 rebounds, shooting 53 percent from the floor in those games.

He also spent time last season with the Lakeland Magic of the G League, averaging 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in 12 appearances.

Diakate played well in the preseason, likely prompting the Cavs to give him a longer look both in the NBA and with the Cleveland Charge of the G League.

Per league rules, he can appear in up to 50 NBA games before the Cavs would have to decide whether to sign him to a standard deal. He cleared waivers on Monday.
