Portland Trail Blazers forward Robert Covington Scott Taetsch-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah Jazz are three teams that are having reasonably good seasons.

Cleveland, obviously, is a shooting star this year in a way nobody expected. The Jazz started off strong, have begun to falter a bit since, but remain contenders. As for the Wolves, the fact that they’re the No. 8 seed in the West is progress.

That said, all three teams have room for improvement. And it appears they’re all looking at the same player in order to achieve that improvement.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, all three squads appear to be chasing a deal for the same player: Robert Covington of the Portland Trail Blazers.

“Several teams have called to express interest in trading for Robert Covington, including the Utah Jazz, as Marc Stein first reported, the Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, and others have also reached out, league sources told HoopsHype,” he reported.

Covington would help any of the aforementioned squads. So far this season, he is averaging 7.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.3 blocks per game for a Portland squad that is going nowhere fast. His defensive tenacity and the fact that he connects on 35 percent of his threes make him a huge asset.

It will be interesting to see where all parties involved go from here. The Cavaliers have a very clear trade plan heading into the NBA Trade Deadline.

Same with the Utah Jazz.

How will Covington ultimately fit into those plans? Time will tell.
