Celtics GM Brad Stevens dismisses idea of taking Lakers HC job: 'I'm definitely not doing that'
The Los Angeles Lakers 2021-22 season may be over, but the Boston Celtics are hoping that their run to a record-breaking 18th NBA championship is just beginning. Celtics general manager Brad Stevens was asked about the Lakers head-coaching vacancy on Thursday and threw cold water on the idea of returning to coaching with Boston's bitter rival.
Stevens broke into the coaching ranks at Butler University in his mid-20s as an assistant coach from 2001-07 before holding the lead gig with the Bulldogs from 2007-13. During Stevens' six-season tenure, Butler went to five NCAA Tournaments and appeared in back-to-back national championship games -- first losing to Duke in 2010 and then UConn in 2011.
After his stay in Indiana, where he posted a 166-49 record, Stevens made the jump to the NBA with the Celtics ahead of the 2013-14 campaign. In his eight seasons as Boston's head coach, Stevens registered a 354-282 mark and led the team to the postseason seven times (including three trips to the Eastern Conference Finals).
The now-45-year-old transitioned to the GM position prior to the 2021-22 season.
