Celtics' Marcus Smart picks up unique assist for alma mater Oklahoma State vs. West Virginia

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart played his final college game for Oklahoma State nearly nine years ago but helped out the Cowboys while sitting courtside during their game against West Virginia on Monday night.

Following a go-ahead second-half three-pointer from Mountaineers guard Erik Stevenson, he and Smart got into a verbal spat, leading to a technical foul being called on the West Virginia player.

According to Unruh, Stevenson would foul out at the 5:57 mark of the second half with his team leading 55-54, before the host Cowboys finished with a 67-60 victory. As noted by The Oklahoman sports reporter, at 9-5 now, Oklahoma State is the "last team in" on Joe Lunardi's ESPN 2023 NCAA Tournament Bracketology.

Prior to being selected by Boston as the sixth overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft, Smart starred for the Cowboys for two seasons, earning a pair of All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 All-Defense honors. Smart was also the 2012-2013 Big 12 Player and Rookie of the Year and garnered a host of other accolades as well.

The reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year and a handful of his teammates were in attendance for Monday night's contest, as the Celtics will face the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road on Tuesday.
