The Boston Celtics made noise early in the NBA playoffs, gaining traction in their first-round series.
Boston has a 1-0 series lead over the Orlando Magic. The Celtics entered the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference and are widely considered one of the favorites to win the NBA title.
In the midst of their search for their second straight NBA title, the Celtics highlighted a major accomplishment for guard Jrue Holiday.
"Congrats Jrue on being named a finalist for the NBA #SocialJusticeChampion Award," posted the official social media account of the Boston Celtics.
Holiday is among the finalists for the prestigious award, along with Bam Adebayo, Harrison Barnes, CJ McCollum and Chris Boucher.
According to an official release by the NBA, the recipient of the award receives the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar trophy. The Social Justice Champion recognizes a current player pursuing social justice; a player who looks to drive equality for inidivduals and groups who have been "historically disadvantaged."
The winner of the award will receive $100,000 that would go toward a justice focused organization of their choosing.
Holiday previously launched the "Jrue and Lauren Holiday Social Impact Fund."
"This initiative supports Boston-based creators and entrepreneurs from underrepresented communities by providing up to $100,000 in grant capital per business, along with elite coaching and access to top institutions like MIT, Harvard, and Suffolk University," posted the NBA.
A few details on the fund were released by the NBA, revealing that the JLH Fund has distributed over $5.3 million in grants.
Aside from his clear impact off the court, Holiday has had yet another successful season with the Boston Celtics.
Holiday has posted 11.1 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
