Celtics reportedly interested in Nets assistant Mike D'Antoni for head-coaching job

The Boston Celtics have already interviewed internal candidates for their vacant head-coaching position. Now the search for external candidates has begun.

According to ESPN's Jordan Schultz, the Celtics are reportedly interested in Brooklyn Nets assistant Mike D'Antoni. The Portland Trail Blazers and Orlando Magic are also interested in the 70-year-old.

The Celtics are in need of a head coach after Brad Stevens was promoted to President of Basketball Operations following Danny Ainge's retirement.

D'Antoni owns a career record of 672-527 in stints with the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets. He had a successful five-year tenure with the Suns and most recently led the Rockets to a 217-101 record during his four seasons in Houston.

Although D'Antoni has been successful in the regular season, he owns a 54-56 record in the playoffs. His teams have never made it to the NBA Finals.

The Celtics are also reportedly interested in Lakers assistant Jason Kidd and former Atlanta Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce.
