Celtics, Timberwolves, Pelicans exploring trade with Hawks for No. 6 pick

The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly open to trading the No. 6 pick in Wednesday night's NBA Draft, and The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor says that the team has had trade talks with the Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves and New Orleans Pelicans.

The Hawks believe they have the talent to make the jump into the Eastern Conference playoff picture, so much so that they are willing to trade their pick in exchange for a solid veteran who could help the team sooner rather than later.

O'Connor previously reported that the Celtics have been trying to package their three first-round picks (Nos. 14, 26 and 30) in order to move up into the lottery. If the Hawks are looking for veteran help, they might want Boston to include a player in a potential deal, most likely Gordon Hayward.

Along with holding the No. 1 pick, the Timberwolves hold the No. 17 pick in the draft and could be looking to move up in order to add another top prospect to their roster. They hope to build around Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell.

According to O'Connor, the reason multiple teams are willing to move up is that they are targeting Patrick Williams from Florida State, whom Detroit may have their eye on with the seventh pick.

"There is speculation that any team moving up would be trying to leapfrog the Pistons for Williams, a young, versatile forward with blossoming offensive talent," O'Connor wrote in his mock draft.

The NBA Draft begins on Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. EST.
