There have been quite some bizarre moments throughout NBA history. There have been players that have played more than 82 games because they were traded multiple times, there have been players who have suited up for 4 or 5 different teams in the season, others who have been traded 4 or 5 times and haven’t even made their debut, and even a player who got traded mid-game.

But perhaps one of the most bizarre trade stories in NBA history goes for Chris Webber, who got traded all of a sudden on a time when he thought that he was in the clear.

Webber recently confessed on the Knuckleheads Podcast that he was traded from Washington to the Sacramento Kings right in the middle of the playoffs, something that he didn’t even know could happen.

Moreover, Webber claims that he was in a convenience store in Washington when one of the workers there broke the news to him. Obviously, he thought he was joking because the NBA playoffs were still going on:

“When I got traded from there it was during the playoffs. I didn’t even know you could get traded in the playoffs. The man at the store told me and I thought he was playing around,” Webber said.

Chris Webber would go on to form one of the strongest powerhouses in the NBA with the Kings. Next to Mike Bibby and Peja Stojakovic, it seemed like the Kings were one of the strongest candidates to win it all but some bad luck, questionable officiating, and the Kobe-Shaq Lakers often got in their way.

At the end of the day, that trade to the Kings was the best to happen to Chris Webber’s career but it’s yet another example of NBA players being the last to find out that they’re being moved, which is why Draymond Green recently called out the league.
