Although the Cleveland Cavaliers are surging in the Eastern Conference, an injury to Evan Mobley threatens to derail their playoff hopes. Moreover, a new update on the $36 million star isn’t looking that good for the Wine and Gold in the coming days.

Just recently, Mobley suffered a sprained ankle in the third quarter of Cleveland’s match against the Boston Celtics. After tests results came out, it was confirmed that the 2021 third overall pick will miss at least a week of NBA action.

In that game against the Boston Celtics, Mobley posted four points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals before injuring his ankle. Throughout 37 games this season, the Cavaliers’ power forward is averaging 15.6 points on 57 percent shooting from the field, 10.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.6 blocks per game.

Mobley is just one of the five players in Cleveland’s roster out with an injury. The others are Donovan Mitchell, Ty Jerome, Dean Wade, and Max Strus. Hopefully, these players will recover just in time for the playoffs to start.

Cleveland Cavaliers Star Evan Mobley Comes Out With Not-So Positive Update On His Injury

While Cavs fans are waiting for the big man to return, his look during Cleveland’s past two games isn’t really pointing toward that direction. In a tweet posted by Ethan Sands on X:

‘The injury update on Evan Mobley is that he’s been wearing a walking boot. He’s had it on while being at the last two games,” Sands posted.

With Wade and Mobley out of action, it seems likely George Niang will take their spot at power forward. Fortunately, the Cavaliers are in a position of strength as they currently hold the second seed in the Eastern Conference with a 41-23 record.

It remains to be seen whether Mobley will return soon or more caution will taken on his ankle. Nevertheless, the big man will surely be missed, especially if the Cavs aim to retain their standing in the East.
