Cody Martin missed much of the 2022-23 season dealing with quad and knee injuries, both of which lingered longer than anyone would have liked. He sustained the first injury on opening night in San Antonio and missed nearly two months before making his return. He played in just six games before the knee injury popped up, forcing him to miss the remainder of the year.

The 28-year-old wing made his way back to the court in a live game for the first time in nearly a year when he made his season debut against the Denver Nuggets on December 23rd. Through his first seven games (two starts) Martin is averaging eight points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

"He made a big difference for our team," head coach Steve Clifford said following Friday's loss in Chicago. "Our defense has gotten a lot better and you know, he's a professional player. I think it's going to take him a little time to get back to (himself). He's worked so hard. He's done everything you can do ever since he's been out. And again, I would say he's farther along than I thought he would be."

Martin is without question the Hornets' best on-ball defender and the numbers reflect that. But much like his brother, Caleb, he can impact the game on the offensive end of the floor when given the opportunity.
