Construction begins at Disney's Grand Floridian ahead of NBA arrival
The NBA officially will be heading to Walt Disney World next month to finish the 2019-20 campaign at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, and it appears players will be living pretty luxuriously when they arrive on property.
Players are expected to be staying at Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs, the Yacht Club and the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.
It appears that the Grand Floridian already is preparing for the NBA's arrival, and construction has begun for the safety and wellbeing of all players staying at the resort. Construction crews have begun adding fencing around areas of the resort to create the "bubble" players will be required to stay in.
That's not all that's going on at the resort, either. Enlarged, massive custom-made beds also are being brought to rooms on property for players to sleep in, according to photos from MickeyBlog. The mattresses reportedly are larger than a California king bed, measuring about 96 inches.
It appears players also will be receiving special microwaves for the rooms, something that will be an upgrade from normal rooms at the Grand Floridian.
According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, here's where each team will be staying, based on seeding:
- Gran Destino Tower: Bucks, Lakers, Clippers, Raptors, Celtics, Nuggets, Jazz, Heat.
- Grand Floridian: Thunder, 76ers, Rockets, Pacers, Mavericks, Nets, Grizzlies, Magic.
- Yacht Club: Trail Blazers, Kings, Pelicans, Spurs, Suns, Wizards.
Despite the surging number of coronavirus cases in Florida, it appears the NBA still is set to make their much-anticipated return at the "Most Magical Place on Earth." The state had over 8,500 people test positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, but Orange County, where Disney is located, had 730 new reported cases.
