Lately, the Detroit Pistons have been responsible for putting a few veteran players on the NBA’s buyout market. Over the past couple of weeks, the Pistons have agreed to buyouts with three players who anticipated joining playoff contenders ahead of the NBA postseason.

Shake Milton was the latest to land on the free agency market from the Pistons. When Detroit wrapped up its Friday night matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Milton learned he would part ways with the organization after spending just a few weeks with the team.

At this point, Milton’s next destination is revealed. He is set to join the New York Knicks.

Will Milton Debut in Knicks vs. Cavaliers?

Unfortunately for an injury-riddled Knicks team, they will not get Milton on their roster quick enough to have him suit up to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday.

Considering Milton was just waived before Friday’s deadline to make his playoff-eligible, not enough time has passed for him to clear waivers and officially sign with New York.

Still, the plan is to have Milton join the Knicks at some point next week. Perhaps he’ll be available to face the Atlanta Hawks at Madison Square Garden, making his debut on Tuesday, March 5.

The Knicks will become Shake Milton’s third team this season. During the 2023 offseason, Milton wrapped up a multi-year stint with the Philadelphia 76ers.

By signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Milton anticipated having a steady role on a playoff contender. He spent 38 games with the Wolves before getting shipped off to Detroit ahead of the trade deadline.

Milton collected a role with the Pistons at first, making an appearance off the bench in his first four games with the team. From that point on, he collected four DNPs in a row, which was clearly a result of an impending buyout.
