Could Wizards resume practice on Wednesday amid COVID-19 outbreak?

The Wizards remain idle through at least midweek as a reported seven players and one staff member have tested positive for COVID-19 amid the outbreak that has caused five of Washington's games to be postponed.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting, however, that available Washington players could be cleared to resume official team practices as soon as Wednesday. The Wizards were scheduled to play at the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday, but that game was postponed because they couldn't dress the required league minimum of eight healthy players.

On Friday, Wizards general manager Tommy Sheppard told reporters that six players had tested positive for the coronavirus, and also that another three were unavailable because of the NBA's health and safety protocols. Any of those three could potentially practice this week, however, as long as they continue to test negative.

The Wizards haven't competed since defeating the Phoenix Suns on Jan. 11, and Wojnarowski added that the NBA might not force Washington to face the Milwaukee Bucks this coming Friday because of a lack of adequate practice time. He reiterated that the league and National Basketball Players Association are discussing expanding roster sizes so teams can better avoid postponements caused by the league's protocols.

Thus far, the NBA has called off 15 total games since the season began on Dec. 22. The Wizards are 3-8 on the campaign.
