During the 2023-24 season, D’Angelo Russell of the Los Angeles Lakers has encountered a mix of highs and lows.

At times, trade rumors swirled around him, while at others, he showcased brilliance on the court, emerging as a standout player for the team.

Throughout these fluctuations, Russell has been etching his name into Lakers lore.

Highlighted by Lakers All Day Everyday and various other sources, Russell stands on the brink of a significant milestone. If he sinks his 184th three-pointer on Friday night, he will surpass the Lakers’ record for most three-pointers in a single season.

Currently, Russell is deadlocked with Nick Van Exel from the 1994-95 season, each boasting 183 threes. This places him ahead of notable figures like Kobe Bryant, who recorded 180 threes in the 2005-06 season, and Van Exel’s 177 in 1996-97.

For the season, Russell has been averaging 18.1 points, 3 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game, with an average of 2.9 successful three-pointers per game. Notably, his proficiency from beyond the arc has seen improvement, with a 42.4% success rate from the three-point line.

Russell’s pivotal role within the team has been accentuated, particularly since late January when trade speculations swirled. Despite the trade deadline passing without Russell departing Los Angeles, he has continued to perform at an All-Star level.

Yet, looming questions persist regarding Russell’s future with the Lakers.

Last summer, he inked a single-year extension with the team, prompting deliberations on whether to retain him or explore other options.

The decision isn’t straightforward, especially given the Lakers’ ongoing struggles despite Russell’s impressive season.

As the Los Angeles Lakers prepare to face off against the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday night, D’Angelo Russell stands on the cusp of cementing his place in Lakers history.

However, uncertainties regarding his long-term tenure with the team linger.
