Soon, the Philadelphia 76ers will be back in action, and for the first time since the 2022 NBA Playoffs, Danny Green will be donning Sixers threads once again.
Recently, the team shared that a few players have been working at the team’s facility for pre-camp workouts. According to the Sixers’ Instagram account, Green was getting in some solo workouts, as were Tobias Harris, Furkan Korkmaz, Jaden Springer , and Danuel House Jr.
The upcoming preseason will be critical for Green, who’s battled his way back after a significant knee injury, which occurred during his final playoff game in 2022.
As the Sixers battled in the second round against the Miami Heat, Green suffered a torn ACL just a few minutes into the matchup. Knowing surgery was required, Green expected to miss a chunk of time during the 2022-2023 season.
The Sixers didn’t keep Green around for the final season of the two-year deal he signed in 2021. Trading him away to the Memphis Grizzlies, the Sixers landed the veteran guard De’Anthony Melton. Green rehabbed in Memphis and played a few games for the team before getting moved in a deadline deal. After getting waived by the Houston Rockets, Green signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
After eight regular season games and four postseason matchups, Green’s second run with the Cavaliers concluded. Once again, he hit the free agency market and reunited with the 76ers on a one-year deal, which is reportedly non-guaranteed.
Green has a lot to offer from a vocal leadership standpoint. He has to prove he still holds value on the floor in a reserve role. While with the Cavs, Green averaged seven points while shooting 45 percent from three. He spent an average of 12 minutes on the floor during his short stint.
Soon, Nick Nurse and the Sixers will get a close look at Green when the team kicks off training camp next week.
