Darius Garland becomes first Cavalier to post triple double through three quarters since LeBron James

Darius Garland did something Wednesday night that no Cavs player has done since LeBron James.

Garland logged 11 points, 10 rebounds and 15 assists in the Cavs' 111-91 trouncing of the Jazz, giving him his first career triple-double. What's even more impressive is how quickly Garland accomplished the feat — he became the only Cavs player besides James to log a triple-double through three quarters in the past 25 years.

Garland didn't shoot the ball particularly well against Utah, but his efficiency orchestrating the offense more than made up for it; his 15 dimes were counterbalanced by just two turnovers. He finished the game with a plus/minus of +22.

The rise of Garland and the Cavs has been one of the best stories of this season across the NBA, as his third-season leap has helped fuel Cleveland to a 24-18 record and a current hold of sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

Garland's numbers have risen across the board this season, as he averages 19.4 points, three rebounds and 7.3 assists per game on 46.9 percent shooting from the field and 38 percent from 3-point range. The Cavaliers drafted Garland fifth overall out of Vanderbilt in 2019.

Evan Mobley also put himself next to LeBron in the history books on Wednesday, as he became the first Cleveland rookie to finish with at least 15 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists in a game since James did back in 2003. Second-year undrafted player Lamar Stevens added a career-high 23 points as well, including 15 in the third quarter alone.
