Davidson to retire Stephen Curry's No. 30 jersey in August

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry became a four-time NBA champion and first-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player via Thursday's 103-90 win at the Boston Celtics in Game 6 of this spring's championship series.

Curry will receive a different honor before the summer concludes.

Per an ESPN piece, Davidson athletic director Chris Clunie confirmed on Friday that the No. 30 jersey Curry wore while representing the Wildcats during his college days will be retired in an Aug. 31 ceremony that will coincide with the 34-year-old being inducted into the Davidson Athletics Hall of Fame and receiving his bachelor's degree. Curry earned his Bachelor of Arts degree with a sociology major back in May but was unable to attend a graduation ceremony since he was busy with his professional obligations.

Curry featured for Davidson from 2006 to 2009 and, as noted by ESPN, holds the school's all-time records for points, three-pointers, free throws, field goals and steals. He helped the Wildcats complete a Cinderella run to the Elite Eight during the 2008 NCAA Tournament.

Since entering the NBA via the first round of the 2009 draft, he's won a pair of regular-season MVP awards, earned four championship rings and cemented his status as a future first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Davidson has previously retired six player jerseys, but Curry's 30 will be the first number forever removed from the rotation.
