Day'Ron Sharpe will miss an extended time as an MRI revealed that he sustained a hyperextended left knee last Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers, the Brooklyn Nets announced in a release.

According to the notice, Sharpe will be re-evaluated in a two-week of timetable.

At what point did Sharpe gain his injury during the Nets-Blazers game?

As Jerami Grant drove hard to the basket and went for a layup, Sharpe soared to deliver a block at 3:22 left in the final period. While he was successful in his defensive stop, the 22-year-old still nastily landed on his left leg.

Upon falling, Day'Ron was visibly mincing in pain while holding his left knee. He eventually got escorted by the team to the dugout, but afterward, it was announced that he wouldn't be able to make a return to the ball game.

Sharpe concluded the night in such a productive way, ending up with 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, and a block in just over 17 minutes off the bench. In the postgame, coach Jacque Vaughn said that the initial evaluation suggested that the center had a left knee sprain.

Next man up

Before going down, Day'Ron has been nothing but splendid in his role as a backup big man for Brooklyn this year, averaging 7.5 points and 7.0 boards while shooting 57.5 percent from the field for 37 games.

With Sharpe set to be out in the Nets' next five to six games because of his knee hyperextension, Nic Claxton has a much massive frontcourt load to carry for the ball club moving forward. The 22-year-old's inactivity would also mean an opportunity for both Trendon Watford and Harry Giles III, as the duo just recently guaranteed their contract for this year.

The Nets are unfortunate this 2023-24 as health hasn't been favoring them, and their rotational units have experienced unavailabilities throughout the season so far. As such, they have no choice but to keep moving and be hopeful that Sharpe will be able to come back stronger from his knee recovery.
