Devin Booker scoffs at calling Suns a 'super team'

Following the shocking acquisition of Kevin Durant ahead of the trade deadline, many have dubbed the Phoenix Suns a "super team" — but don't use that moniker around star guard Devin Booker.

While speaking with reporters Thursday, Booker scoffed at the idea, pointing out that the Suns had only one All-Star this season: Kevin Durant.

"I just don't do all the titles and stuff; that's for you guys and everybody else," Booker said. "I know we have a really talented group. I think enough to get to where we're trying to go and finish what we're trying to do. That's my main focus. Everything that's said about us will come regarding how we finish."

All-Star nods aren't the only qualification necessary to label a team "super," but even if that was the barometer, Booker's argument is disingenuous at best. The Suns have an inarguable "big three" in Booker, Chris Paul and Durant, and between the trio, they have 28 All-Star appearances combined.

While Booker and the Suns grapple with titles, there's also the question of how the team will co-exist once Durant is on the floor. We'll all soon find out as the Suns plan for Durant to make his debut Wednesday on the road against the Charlotte Hornets.

Booker isn't worried about how the team will mesh either, stating earlier this month that the Suns have "no hierarchy" and that each player's individual leadership style complements the others'.

Coming out of the All-Star break, the Suns are 32-28, fifth in the Western Conference, with some work to do if they hope to improve their position before the postseason. If things do work out with Durant in Phoenix, the Suns will probably be more than happy to let basketball fans and reporters alike call them anything they want, especially if the season ends with the team hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
